What is Toastervision? Pt. 2

1310575598397

Hello again, everybody! You’re probably wondering where we’ve been lately. Holidays and whatnot have kept all of the Toastervision staff pretty well occupied, but now that we’re moving into New Year’s Eve territory, which really isn’t a holiday so much as an excuse to drink in excess (not healthy, y’know), it feels like it’s time to talk about where we’re at right now as a site.

November was a really good month for us. We had a solid amount of views from what I could see, and Jared, JD and I were prepared to pick things up in December. Suffice it to say, our traffic has increased far, FAR beyond what I thought we could do right now. We’ve got a solid 3,450+ UNIQUE visitors right now for the month of December, and it thrills me to type that. So many people have come to visit this website, and it makes me so happy to see that some of you continue to return.

I wanted to bring up some stuff with the people that are frequent visitors to our glorious republic of Toastervision. As you may or may not have seen, we recently outfitted an old World of Warcraft community forum into the official Toastervision Forum Oven XL 3600. You can get to those here! http://forum.toastervision.com/forum.php

Secondly, we would love to hear feedback from people on what they would like to see more of, things that you genuinely want to hear about in the industry right now. We’re at a very volatile point, with the launch of the Vita imminent in the US and already available in Japan, and a new generation of consoles potentially being revealed half a year from now. We can’t do it all but we want to focus on what you guys want to see. My contact info is below, along with our general Editor/Tip Line address – please use them if you have something to say.

That’s about all I’ve got for tonight. I might do another one of these posts again at the end of February. Who knows?! Hope you’re enjoying your stay. Big things in store, still!

There was a time long before graphically teasing cinematics, before players were spoon fed with story related details, and tutorials.  It seems that time is gone, but not lost.

SSX rebirth release date gets pushed back by a few weeks.

ssx

This is the new SSX, the rebirth title of the most popular snowboarding series ever, so EA has been taking its time to iterate the title properly. Well, fans of the series (myself included) are going to have to wait just a little bit longer. [Read more...]

Come play TF2 with us!

TF2Night

We’re celebrating Australian Christmas tonight, folks. Jared, Kojo and myself (possibly more!) will all be playing Team Fortress 2 tonight at 8:30 CST in honor of the new Australian Christmas items. Double drop rates are active, so there’s items to be won, hats to be discovered and all sorts of shenanigans.

Join in on the fun by adding the server name “Toastervision” ( 68.232.166.74 ) to your favorites list. The server password is “toasty”. Hope to see ya there!

Screen Shot Contest!

Skyrim Epic

So you’re sitting at your computer going, ‘Toastervision, great, I’m so excited… What are you doing for me?” Well I’ll tell you what we’re doing! A friggin’ contest! That’s right, we’re starting out the New Year with a Dovahkiin Shout-out to the games of the year before they’re lost to oblivion.

As a photographer and journalist, I believe taking screenshots is an art form. As such, the boys at Toastervision have taken it upon ourselves to do a screenshot contest. Of course, what would a contest be without prizes? First, Second and Third place winners will get their pick from our Bucket of Epic Loot. The First place guy (or gal) will pick first, then second, then third (obviously). Click the jump for a list of the loot and how to enter! [Read more...]

FORUMS!

Hello folks. This is my first, and probably my last, post on Toastervision. I’m the technical guy behind the scenes, and as such, I don’t usually rite gud. I’m more at home editing configuration files, or writing shell scripts. The only reason I’m even doing this is that there is a new offering from Toastervision, and Dylan asked me to write up a post about it.

To that end, I’ll write this in a way I’m a bit more comfortable but only after the break.

Preview: Tribes: Ascend

Tribes-Ascend

I have never played the original Tribes games. I know, I know, that makes me some kind of PC gaming heretic or something. When its first incarnation, Starsiege: Tribes launched way back in 1998, I was not really all on the up and up when it comes to playing shooters, let alone high-octane, jetpack oriented fragfests. As I slowly ingrained myself into the ideas of playing with a keyboard and mouse rather than a tired old console controller, I felt like this series was worth looking into, but never actually got around to taking the plunge.

Fast forward to PAX Prime in August, and I finally got my hands on Tribes: Ascend, the free-to-play rebirth being developed by Hi-Rez Studios and set to come out sometime next year (officially). I’ve been playing quite a bit of the game’s Closed Beta over the past couple weeks, and I have a few thoughts about what the game’s all about.

What it’s about is being TOTALLY FRIGGIN’ AWESOME.

umvc3_vita_fob2

Hello, friends! We have a handful of new screenshots from the upcoming Vita version of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, including some sexy box art. It’s not really sexy per se, but it does show us what an official Vita box might look like – check out that snazzy blue line at the top! Yowza!

Okay I will stop talking dirty about a video game cover and let you look at these screenshots for yourself. They are all beyond the jump.

Humble Indie Bundle 4 is out!

wbcoD

It’s that time again, and only for another 14 days!  The wonderful people over at Humble Bundle, Inc. have given us a new bundle of 5 games to enjoy.  You may ask yourself, “Isn’t this just a deal where you get a few games for some super discounted price?”  The answer is a hearty no.  You pay whatever price you feel is right, but pay over a certain amount and get an extra 2 games.  That brings it to a total of 7 games!  The amount you need to pay usually hovers between 5 and 7 dollars in order to get the extra games.  It’s determined by the average payment, meaning you don’t have to pay over the average if you don’t want the extra 2 games.  Give them 2 dollars if that’s all you can spare, but you won’t get the extra 2 games.  Keep in mind however that some of the funds from all Humble Indie Bundles go to charity!

tloutrailer1

Let me cut right to the chase with a +6 sword. The gaming industry has used the VGAs as a large platform to deliver to us a cluster of surprisingly, and deliciously, beautiful looking trailers for some brand new titles and highly anticipated sequels. Oh wait! Were you not able to watch SPIKE TV’s wonderful program? Lucky you. We have ‘em all right here.
